We repair existing shutters — even if we did not install them

Most repair calls we get are for shutters someone else installed, or systems that came with the house when it was bought. That is fine — we service them all. You do not need the original installer, the original paperwork, or even to know the brand. We come out, diagnose the system on-site, and tell you honestly whether it needs a part, a service, or replacement. If a company left the island or stopped answering, we are who you call.

Motor replacement and electrical faults

The most common failure on motorized shutters is the motor or its controls. Salt air, age and power surges all take their toll. We replace failed shutter motors, sort out dead remotes and wall switches, and — critically for the Bahamas — confirm the manual override works so the shutter still closes during a power cut. A motorized shutter that only closes with grid power is a liability in a storm, and it is one of the first things we check.

Stuck shutters, bent tracks and corroded hardware

Roll-downs and accordions fail mechanically too. We free stuck and jammed shutters, straighten or replace bent and dented tracks, rebuild binding accordion blades, and swap out corroded fasteners, hinges and locks for stainless replacements. Salt is relentless here — a track that grinds today will seize completely before the season, so it is worth fixing while it is still just stiff.

  • Manual override checks so shutters close during outages
  • Freeing stuck roll-downs and binding accordions
  • Straightening or replacing bent and damaged tracks
  • Replacing corroded hinges, locks and fasteners with stainless

Pre-season checkup: book January to March

The worst time to discover a broken shutter is when a storm is already named and every installer is booked. Our pre-season checkup is designed to prevent exactly that. Between January and March we go through every opening: cycle each shutter, lubricate tracks, test motors and overrides, tighten and replace worn hardware, and flag anything heading toward failure while parts are still easy to get. You go into June knowing the whole house actually works — not hoping it does.

Why timing matters more here than most places

Hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30, and the Bahamian market tightens fast once a storm approaches. Repair parts, motors and installer time all sell out — the lesson from storms like Dorian. Servicing in the calm months means real diagnosis, the right parts, and a house that is ready before it needs to be. It also keeps your rated protection genuinely rated, which is what your insurer is paying you a discount to maintain.

Documentation and second homes

After a repair we can provide documentation confirming the system is functional, useful for insurers and for off-island owners who manage the property remotely. For second homes in Lyford Cay, Old Fort Bay and Albany we coordinate with your property manager and send photo documentation of the work — no need to be on the island.
